Organization is bigger than the Individual

Yudhishtira is a noble king, an epitome of wisdom and righteousness. Yet he decides to gamble away his entire kingdom not just once but twice.

Draupadi asks, who gave him to right to lose her, his brothers and the Kingdom? Being a king, does not entitle him to gamble away his kingdom. Yudhistira loses his self control and gambles away everything, thinking that the kingdom, the property, his brothers and his wife are all his “possessions”.

The organization (Kingdom) is bigger than the individual (King / CEO). The individual has no right to destroy the organization, even if he has founded it. He may be the manager or owner but the organization is certainly greater than him.

Passion in work versus doing for the sake of doing it!

Once Arjuna asks Krishna why Yudhishthira is called Dharmaraja (Religion king) and Karna as Daanveer (Donation king), as both never refused alms to anyone. Krishna says, wait for some time &I will let you know.

After a month, in whole kingdom it was raining heavily, both (Krishna and Arjuna) in disguise of Brahmins (wise men/priests) first go to Yudhishthira, saying that we are doing a Yagna and need 100Kg of Sandal wood. Yudhishthira immediately sent his servants across the kingdom, and later regretfully refused by saying that it is difficult to find dry Sandal wood anywhere as its raining heavily. Let me know if I can arrange anything else for you. Both Brahmins said “thanks” and left the place.

Then they went to Karna and made the same demand. Karna thought for a while and said it is raining heavily outside, it is least likely to get dry Sandal wood. He takes out his bow and arrow and cuts all windows and doors of his palace and compiles them for the Brahmins.

Later Krishna says to Arjuna, it is not that Yudhishthira would have refused if we would have asked for wood from his doors and windows. But this idea didn’t strike Yudhishthira in first place. Yudhishthira donates because it is written in Dharma (religion), Karna donates because he likes to do it.

The message of the story is very subtle. So many times in our personal and professional life we are doing just for the sake of doing it. There is no heart and soul into it. There is no passion for doing it.

Flipkart – Am quite delighted with your email

I am quite amazed with the flipkart email. In the email, owners of flipkart have really owned up the mess, cleaned and won its customer’s trust again. And that too within 24 hours, without procrastination.

YOU WON MY HEART FLIPKART

I really appreciate your authenticity, your courage and your passion to serve your customers best!

Full Text of the mail:

Dear Customer,

Yesterday was a big day for us. And we really wanted it to be a great day for you. But at the end of the day, we know that your experience was less than pleasant. We did not live up to the promises we made and for that we are really and truly sorry.

It took enormous effort from everyone at Flipkart, many months of preparation and pushing our capabilities and systems to the limit to be able to create this day. We were looking at fulfilling the dreams of millions of Indian consumers through deals and offers we had painstakingly put together for months.

And though we saw unprecedented interest in our products and traffic like never before, we also realized that we were not adequately prepared for the sheer scale of the event. We didn’t source enough products and deals in advance to cater to your requirements. To add to this, the load on our server led to intermittent outages, further impacting your shopping experience on our site.

An unprecedented 1.5 million people shopped at Flipkart yesterday. While we stand humbled by the sheer faith that such a large number of customers have shown in us, we are unhappy that we were unable to live up to the expectations of millions more who wanted to buy from us yesterday.

And this is not acceptable to us.

Delighting you, and every single one of our customers, is absolutely the top most priority for Flipkart and we have worked very hard over the last seven years to earn your trust. Yesterday, we failed that trust. We have learnt some valuable lessons from this and have started working doubly hard to address all the issues that cropped up during this sale.

Price Changes As we were preparing various deals and promotional pricing in the lead up to the sale, the pricing of several products got ?changed to their non-discounted rates for a few hours?. We realise that this breaks the trust our customers have put in us. We are truly sorry for this and will ensure that this never happens again.

Out-of-stock Issues We ran out of the stock for many products within a few minutes (and in some cases, seconds) of the sale going live. For example, most of our special deals were sold out as soon as they went live. We had ensured availability, anywhere from hundreds to a few lakh units for various products, but it was nowhere near the actual demand. We promise to plan much better for future promotions and ensure that we minimise the out-of-stock issues.

Cancellations We had large number of people buying specific products simultaneously. This led to some instances of an order getting over-booked for a product that was sold out just a few seconds ago. We are working round-the-clock to ensure availability of additional units for these products and will do our level best to ensure that we minimise any cancellations.

Website Issues ?We realise that the shopping experience for many of you was frustrating due to errors and unavailability of the website at times. We had deployed nearly 5000 servers and had prepared for 20 times the traffic growth – but the volume of traffic at different times of the day was much higher than this. We are continuing to significantly scale up all our back end systems so that we do a much, much better job next time.

Everything that we have achieved at Flipkart is purely on the basis of our customer’s trust and faith. This is why we come to work each day and continue to remain extremely passionate about building the best possible customer experience for Indian consumers. We failed to live up to this promise yesterday and would like to apologise once again to every single customer for our failure.

Thank you.

Sachin and Binny

We – the People, Transforming INDIA

With the election results today, we have created history!! Ours is a generation who is a part of this historic moment. It is “WE – THE PEOPLE” who have created this moment. I have seen newschannels comparing this election with the 1984 one. We are the generation that have learned about the past PMs and elections thru books, word of mouth, articles, etc. We have never tasted it LIVE! We only tasted Corruption, indifference and a selfish government. We may not even know how it is to breathe and live in a good governance – A government that is for the people.

We have won the first step! Elections were just first step. Real game begins now. This time we have selected the government on the basis of one single personality. BJP on its own in last 30 years have never been as powerful as with its new PM face Narendra Modi. Namo is the man of real power. He has that ability and aura to attract people thru his work. I believe, he may not have spoken much as much as his career as CM in the state of Gujarat has. Every questions about his actions and ability were answered with his track record of Gujarat keeping Supreme court’s defintions and judgement in the conversation. A man who openly speaks about having power and courage to punish the guilty. A man who has Vision for India – just besides governing in the current scenario. We always wanted growth, progress, security, bright future for the country, for ourselves. As individual we concentrate on our lives, and thats why we have hired politicians to run and govern our country. We give them Power to be safeguard ourselves and our country. Not for arrogance. We give them RESPONSIBILITIES AND TRUST.

Today, we have given the TRUST AND RESPONSIBILITIES to NAMO. We have selected him because of his actions, results and his performance. We see a man of transformation in him. This is the great victory for us.

For Aam AADMI Party, Arvind Kejriwal may not have resigned looking at the problems in Delhi. He may not have received support for his amendments too. All that led to the fall of AAP was its inability to have courage and aptitude to deal with the barriers inspite of having power. If CM goes on Dharna, is that a solution to any problem. Though his intentions and vision were good at the initial stage, AAP too would have been disastrous. As it did not had the numbers to win and would have taken the support of Congress or UPA. Nor did it had the aptitude to deal with the current problems of India.

Looking at a current scenario in India, it needs a leader like Namo, who is audacious, courageous, frank and knows how to deal with barriers and the corrupt polticians. He has demonstrated himself as no non-sense person in the entire election promotions, rallies and interviews! We need someone like him today.

Today, its first time in the history of India that BJP has won more than 273 seats as an individual party. No alliance needed to form a govt. As an NDA, it has won more than 325 seats. and another history is “Not a single party has got more than 60 seats on its own”. India wants PROGRESS!!! First time in India there will be a stable government as BJP has won more than enough seats to form its own govt. Namo has won on the basis of his ability to fix the economy, infrastructure,  combating corruption, technology, and he understands what the current generation wants. I remember a phase where govt of india mentioned about facebook, twitter and other social networking sites to ruin the situations, but they failed to notice and understand the power of social media. They were scared of its powers looking at middle east revolution of 2011.Namo has shown a great acceptance and power of social media. He has his blog, his own website, i just followed him on twitter and his shares on twitter!! India is changing!

Besides above factors, India even needs audacious and courageous man like him to deal with our defences. In last 10 years, indian defence system and infrastructure has really gone down. On the contrary China is more superior when it comes to defence – its has really spent a lot on its defences. We need to have a strong defence system and strong push towards closing 26/11 case and other such pending terrorism cases. We need a strong international policy against Pakistan and China. We lost 10 years. Now we cannot.

The real game begins NOW!!!

Personality myths in management

Introverts and Extroverts

We are always told that:

To be happy is to be sociable
To be great is to be bold
If you are sitting alone in a social gathering, it means you are sad
If you are a part of group, means you are smart, happy and fun loving
If you are quiet, it means you are shy and not bold
If you are loud and speak a lot, mingle a lot, you are a leader

Talkative people are rated as smarter, better looking as more interesting and more desirable as friends. Velocity of speech also counts as well as volume. We rank fast talkers as more competent and likable than slow ones. Voluble are considered as smarter than reticent

We see ourselves as the nation of extroverts. If you are not an introvert, you are surely managing, raising, married to or coupled with one.

There are also a set of people who pretend to be extroverts. Extroverts with their loud voice, constant communication and interaction with people, leave an impression that they are smart and intelligent. Which may be true or may not be true.

We have been born and brought up in an environment or a value system called “Extrovert Ideal” – an ideal self is gregarious and comfortable being in spot light.

Parents feel they are not providing something when they see their child sitting with books and spending time alone instead of playing or interacting in a group or staying alone for most of the times. At times they may even be resentful when they see other kids.

Even in schools, desks are arranged in such a way that group learning can take place, there are various programs, events, functions, competitions in schools and colleges to foster group work. And the one who cant fit themselves in the group, start feeling inferior and go into a shell or thinking that there is something wrong with them.

Do you know, without introverts, world would have been devoid of theory of relativity, theory of gravity, the GOOGLE, satyagraha revolution, Harry potter, Charlie Brown, W.B Yeat’s the second coming, Proust’s in search of lost time, Orwell’ s 1984 and animal farm, the cat in the hat, etc.

We would have been devoid of geniuses like Einstein, Gandhi, Newton, Roosevelt, Abraham lincoln, speakers like robin sharma, etc.

Apple computers are a brain child of an introvert!

Worlds greatest ideas, art and inventions – from theory of evolution to Van Gogh’ sunflowers to the personal computers, came from quiet and cerebral people who knew how to tune into their inner worlds and treasures to be found there.

Introversion – along with its cousins sensitivity, seriousness and shyness – is now a second class personality trait, somewhere between disappointment and a pathology. Not all introverts are shy. Do not mix up both. Shyness is fear of social gatherings and public speaking and fear or acceptance. Even extroverts can be shy.

Extroverts is an enormously appealing personality style, but we have turned it into an oppressive standard to which most of us conform. Let their voice not over shadow the voice of introverts. Listen to them and you will be surprised to hear some treasures, something innovative that you would have ever come across.

If you are an introvert, reading this article, be proud to be so and know that you are equally powerful and equally important. Know that most of the world leaders are a part of you.

If you are an extrovert, know that you are missing on something from the geniuses around you. World needs you and introverts also.

Of course extroverts are also genius. Infact, Its not the extrovert or introvert that tells us who is genius, its the intellect. All we need is not judge genius in the scale of loudness, volume, social gatherings, clothings, talkativeness, loud body language, number of people surrounded by. All these factors do not co-relate in terms of being genius.

Connecting Heart and Brain

Few days back, i kept pondering over a word which is very common – Communication and Communion. These are not new words to any of us but, that day i really thought in depth about these 2 words.

Dictionary meaning of communication is: the imparting or exchanging of information or news.

Dictionary meaning of communion is: the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, esp. when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level.

Communion – union while communication, oneness while communicating is like heart and communication is like brain…

These 2 words give me wonderful thought about connecting heart and brain.

In communication there is a sharing of ideas through words, pleasant or unpleasant, through symbols, through gestures; and ideas can be translated ideologically, or interpreted according to one’s own peculiarities, idiosyncrasies and background.

But in communion I think there is something quite different taking place. In communion there is no sharing or interpretation of ideas. You may or may not be communicating through words, but you are directly in relationship with that which you are observing; and you are communing with your own mind, with your own heart. One may commune with a tree, for example, or with a mountain, or a river. I do not know if you have ever sat beneath a tree and really tried to commune with it. It is not sentimentality, it is not emotionalism: you are directly in contact with the tree. There is an extraordinary intimacy of relationship. In such communion there must be silence, there must be a deep sense of quietness; your nerves, your body are at rest; the heart itself almost comes to a stop. There is no interpretation, there is no communication, no sharing. The tree is not you, nor are you identified with the tree: there is only this sense of intimacy in a great depth of silence. I do not know if you have ever tried it. Try it sometime – when your mind is not chattering, not wandering all over the place, when you are not soliloquizing, when you are not remembering the things that have been done or that must be done. Forgetting all that, just try communing with a mountain, with a stream, with a person, with a tree, with the very movement of life. That demands an astonishing sense of stillness, and a peculiar attention – not concentration, but an attention which comes with ease, with pleasure

Communication is composed of language, which is composed of words. Yet those words are not the sensation themselves, but mere representations of them.

and we are so attached to words

Due to communication being lingual, it is a mind based faculty, because the mind is nothing more than words. Thus, communication is based on a sense of separation and division, which is the mark of mind centered consciousness. Here I am, and there you are and we are communicating. It is mind to mind. But because nature is not linear in quality, communication and language does not penetrate into the heart of things. It is peripheral, surface level. It is scientific and not poetic. It is rigid and not fluid. It relays information, but not transformation. This is not meant to devalue words or the mind itself. We have it for a reason and it serves a great purpose, which is to be in service to the heart.

Communion on the other hand, is a very different experience; it is worlds apart from communication. Communion is a very beautiful word, it is composed of two words: common and union. Common indicates a certain likeness of things, a commonality is a reflection, in that what is before you is similar to you; you are equals. But when union enters the picture, the division between you and the other dissolves. The two become one. Rather than seeing the other as being a mere reflection of yourself, you see it truly being yourself. Communion is intimacy.

So whereas in communication there is a division between oneself and what is being communicated with, in communion there is no division at all, one becomes that which is being perceived. It resides in the realm of the heart, where there is nothing but unity. And in order to enter into communion, one must become utterly feminine, so open, so receptive, that you allow the other to enter into you deeply, so that they touch your innermost core, your essence. Conversely, they too, must be in this state as well, thus, two purity s are interweaving together into one. It is an exchange of essences; unio mystica. In communion, there is a deep transformation, as opposed to mere exchange of information.

Communion reaches a place that is far beyond words. In fact, it touches to that place where words unfold, it is the invisible space from which the symbolism of words and language derive. So it is natural that once communion has occurred and is over, the separation of self and other occurs again, that a whole slew of words will arise within ones consciousness. But these words will be of a radically different quality than before because they are arising from the source of words, rather than generated from a previous surface level thought stream.

In order for these words to be able to touch the depth of what has occurred in the state of communion, it is important to have a natural language that can adequately express what has happened. This natural language is one of energetics. Because communion is a dissolving of boundaries, one enters into a realm of pure undifferentiated energy, it is a movement into the unmanifest, the mystery. The standard language of the mind will not do, science cannot touch this place. This is where the application of the universal cosmology comes into place, because it provides the framework or pattern from which these kinds of experiences can be best fit into. It allows for the communication to adequately and accurately reflect the communion. In other words, it enables the mind to be entrained with the heart, so that the words reflect the truth of the experience. In this way, we learn to truly speak from the heart.

Life correct hai makeover!!!

Its really appreciating the legacy of makeover that channel v india does every few years. Its so amazing to know that how it wants keep its channel with the flow of the generations and keep upto their expectations.

I dont even recollect since when i am watching channel [v] India. Just remember that its been there since school days. I still remember the gorgeous and very intelligent Ruby Bhatia as channel [v] VJ. And hot and dashing – model – Purab Kohli, former beauty queen and sexy Sarah-Jane Dias, the ex-viva band girl and a wonderful singer today – Anushka Manchanda, etc and list of fantabulous VJs can go on. Even the actress Mahima chowdhary was a channel [v] VJ.

This channel had VJs turned to actors.. Like

Mahima chowdhary
ruby Bhatia
Anushka Manchanda
Aditya Roy Kapoor
Ranvir Shourey
Vinay Pathak
Sushma Reddy
Gaurav Kapoor
Sophia
Purab Kohli
Shruti seth
Namit Das

Then it has been positioned as music channel. The best part was… Channel [v] was amongst one of the few international channel to localise the whole content in india.

The channel v bloody cool make over and now “the all new channel v – life correct hai” is so wonderful. The new logo, new tagline, new online looks and presence, new programs targetted for youths, Everything is so brilliant. I have been a huge fan following of channel v and its programs.

U R fired, gumraah, dare to dare, kidnap, axe your ex, footloose, d3, my big decision, roomies, love net, love kiya toh darna kya, humse hai life and the list goes on…

The current tagline and makeover Life correct hai… Because what feels so right, cant be wrong – is just a beautiful concept. Its for youth… That their life, their decisions are correct.

The new tagline says Correct Hai! “The brand campaign, targeting the youth, throws a simple thought – politically incorrect, emotionally correct. Encouraging youngsters to listen to their inner voice. When it comes to life if they feel right about something, it really can’t be wrong.”

Am even quite excited with he 4 new shows being introduced. Especially confessions of an indian teenager and paanch

The 4 new shows lined up with the makeover image of channel v include:
‘Sadda Haq’ will narrate the story of a brilliant and curious girl who has harboured the dream of becoming an engineer and how she moves ahead to fulfil her dreams.

‘Confessions of an Indian Teenager’ is a story of a young boy Vaibhav, who takes the viewers on a journey to meet young people and share their worries.

‘Paanch’ is the story of 18-year-old shy girl who enters a college in Mumbai to ‘right some wrongs.’ She takes upon the mammoth task of transforming herself into someone who she isn’t: unforgiving and brutal. All this to avenge something that has deeply affected her in the past.

‘It’s Complicated’ – a new relationship status, is about three young couples who deal with their relationship problems.

Confidence and Trust

I will not make it boring. Let me start with asking few questions:

1. Do you think you are confident? How do you know it?

Ok! If you decide or think on something and you check with 10 other people to confirm if your decision or thoughts are correct…. And then you say you are confident??

Now this is really a paradox!!

2. Do you trust Yourself or believe in yourself? how do you know it?

Do people’s thoughts and comments bring you down and you start doubting your decisions and thoughts or actions? Then is this called believe in self?

Dictionary meaning of trust:
Firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something without evidence or investigation

Dictionary meaning of confidence:
The feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something

3. Do you tell someone that you trust them after investigation with 10 people? Then do you really trust them? Go back to the dictionary meaning of the word trust.

Either you trust or don’t trust. Trust cannot come after evidences and investigation.

Look back and rethink if you are confident and you trust without any of the above.

Then you really are!!

Importance of number 108

When we see number of beads in vara mala/vrata mala, number of names of God and Goddess, I always wondered there should be some prominence for 108 which I do not know. Why do we give so much importance to 108 in Hinduism? Why 108 is so sacred for Hindus? Here is a brief explanation of the use and importance of this number:

The diameter of the Sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth.

The distance from the Sun to the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Sun.

The average distance of the Moon from the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Moon.

In Ayurveda, there are 108 “Marma” points that are vital for giving life to living beings.

The powerful Sri Chakra yantra intersects in 54 points each with a masculine and feminine quality, totalling to 108

In Indian astrology we have 12 houses and 9 plants. 12 times 9 equals to 108.

In Tantra, it is estimated that every day we breathe 21,600 times out of which 10,800 are solar energy and 10, 800 are lunar energy. Multiplying 108 X 100 is 10,800.

The famous saint Bharata wrote “The Natya Shastra” which has 108 karanas (Movement of hand and feet)

There are 54 letters in Sanskrit each can be mentioned as masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti) aspect, totalling to 108.

There are 108 Puranas and 108 Upanishads.

9 times 12: Both of these numbers have been said to have spiritual significance in many traditions. 9 times 12 is 108. Also, 1 plus 8 equals 9. That 9 times 12 equals 108.

Powers of 1, 2, and 3 in math: 1 to 1st power=1; 2 to 2nd power=4 (2×2); 3 to 3rd power=27 (3x3x3). 1x4x27=108

If one is able to be so calm in meditation as to have only 108 breaths in a day, enlightenment will come.

Sri Yantra:
On the Sri Yantra there are marmas where three lines intersect, and there are 54 such intersections. Each intersection has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti qualities. 54 times 2 equal 108. Thus, there are 108 points that define the Sri Yantra as well as the human body.

Chinese:
The Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala, which is called su-chu, and has three dividing beads, so the mala is divided into three parts of 36 each. Chinese astrology says that there are 108 sacred stars.

Stages of the soul:
Said that Atman, the human soul or center goes through 108 stages on the journey.

This is a larger bead, not part of the 108. It is not tied in the sequence of the other beads. It is the guiding bead, the one that marks the beginning and end of the mala.

Praiseworthy souls:
There are 108 qualities of praiseworthy souls.

Japan:
