On October 30, 1990, during the height of the Ram Mandir movement, thousands of kar sevaks reached Ayodhya to perform kar seva. Some brave volunteers managed to break through heavy security and climb the domes of the Babri Masjid. They hoisted saffron flags on top, a powerful symbolic moment for Hindus demanding the return of Lord Ram’s birthplace. Security forces soon pushed them back and tried to remove the flags.
What happened next became the stuff of legends. As officials prepared to pull down one of the flags on the central dome, a monkey suddenly appeared and sat right next to it. The security personnel stopped in their tracks. They saw the monkey as a living form of Lord Hanuman, the devoted follower of Ram, who had come to guard the flag. No one wanted to disturb the animal. The monkey stayed there for several hours, calmly perched on the dome, while the flag remained flying. Only late at night, after the monkey finally left on its own, did the security team climb up and remove it.
This simple yet powerful incident quickly spread across India. Newspapers carried the iconic photograph of the monkey sitting proudly on the dome. For millions of devotees, it was not just a random event but a clear divine sign that Lord Hanuman was watching over the movement. Even today, the story is fondly remembered as proof of Ram’s blessing on the sacred cause.
The tale of the “Divine Monkey of Ayodhya” continues to inspire faith and hope. It reminds us how, in moments of struggle, believers often find strength in small but extraordinary signs. Jai Shri Ram!
