This is Blog Episode 1 of Ramakrishna Paramhansa Series.
A warm afternoon sun filtered through the leaves at Dakshineswar. The Ganga flowed quietly nearby, its gentle ripples sparkling like tiny diamonds. Ramakrishna sat on the simple wooden floor of his room, legs folded, his face soft and glowing. A small group of young disciples gathered around him—some cross-legged, some leaning forward, eyes full of quiet wonder.
The air smelled of fresh flowers and incense. No one spoke much. They just loved being near him. Ramakrishna’s eyes twinkled like a child about to share his favourite secret. He smiled that gentle, mischievous smile of his and said in his soft, loving voice,
“Come, my children. Let me tell you what happened to a man who wanted to know the ocean.”
The Simple Wish That Changed Everything
There was once a man who lived by the sea. He had heard so much about the ocean—its endless blue, its mighty waves, its hidden depths. One bright morning he picked up a long measuring rod and decided, “Today I will walk into the water and find out exactly how deep it is.”
He was not in a hurry. His heart was light. He just wanted to touch the truth with his own hands.
The man stepped onto the warm sand. The first small waves kissed his feet. He smiled. He took another step. The water rose to his ankles. Still he smiled. Another step, and it touched his knees. The rod was ready in his hands.
The Water Begins to Work Its Magic
The sea welcomed him like an old friend.
When the water reached his waist, something beautiful started to happen. A gentle warmth spread through his body, as if the ocean itself was hugging him. His legs felt lighter… almost dreamy.
The man laughed softly. He lifted the rod to measure, but his hands felt different now—soft, almost melting.
He took one more step. The water touched his chest.
And then the most astonishing thing unfolded.
His legs began to dissolve—slowly, sweetly, like sugar melting in warm milk. No pain. Only joy. A wave of pure happiness washed over him. His body was becoming part of the sea, and the sea was becoming part of him.
He did not feel afraid. He felt free.
His hips melted next, turning into sparkling blue water. His chest followed, opening like a flower into the waves. His arms, still holding the rod, softened and slipped away like morning mist.
Nothing Left but Pure Joy
Now only the man’s smiling face remained above the water.
He looked around with eyes full of wonder. The ocean was no longer “outside” him. He was the ocean. Every drop, every wave, every hidden current was him. There was no more “me” and “the sea.” There was only one beautiful, endless joy.
A big, peaceful smile spread across his face—the kind of smile that comes when you finally come home after a long journey.
And then even his face melted away into the blue.
Nothing was left.
No rod. No man. Only the ocean—calm, vast, and full of love.
Ramakrishna leaned back a little, his own face glowing with the same peace he had just described. He looked at his disciples and said softly,
“That is what happens when you walk into God with a simple, open heart. You melt. You become Him. And all that remains is joy.”
The Room Filled with Light
For a long moment, no one spoke.
One disciple felt tears of happiness in his eyes—not sad tears, but the kind that come when something very old and heavy inside you suddenly becomes light. Another disciple smiled so widely his cheeks hurt. A third closed his eyes and felt his own worries quietly dissolving, just like the man in the story.
Ramakrishna laughed a small, happy laugh—the one that always made everyone feel the world was a beautiful, safe place.
He picked up a small flower from the offering plate beside him and twirled it gently between his fingers. “See?” he said. “God is waiting for us exactly like that ocean. He does not push. He does not pull. He simply welcomes us home… and we melt into His love.”
Why This Story Still Makes Hearts Smile
Even today, when you sit quietly and remember this simple tale, something soft happens inside.
You stop trying so hard to measure life with your little rod of worries and plans.
You feel lighter.
You feel loved.
You smile without any reason.
Because deep down you remember: you were never separate from the ocean of joy. You only forgot for a while.
And Ramakrishna, with his twinkling eyes and warm voice, is still sitting there in our hearts, saying, “Come, my child. One step is enough. The rest will melt away beautifully.”
