Mangal Bhavan Amangal Haari – Gentle Pearls from Ramcharitmanas

These beautiful verses come from the Ramcharitmanas by Goswami Tulsidas ji, written in sweet Awadhi language. They are full of deep wisdom, devotion, and gentle spiritual lessons. They often appear at the beginning of many Ramayana recitations. Each line carries a quiet message that touches the heart and guides daily life.

Here is each verse (or group of lines) in original Awadhi, followed by simple English transliteration, and then a clear Explanation in easy words.

Transliteration:
Mangal bhavan amangal haari
Dravahu sudasarath ajir bihaari

Explanation
Shri Ram is the true home of all goodness and happiness. He gently removes every sadness, fear, and trouble from our life. Here, Tulsidas ji lovingly calls upon the divine child Ram who played happily in King Dasharath’s courtyard in Ayodhya. The prayer is simple and tender: “O Shri Ram, please melt with kindness and shower your grace upon us.” When we remember him this way, all inauspicious things quietly leave, and peace fills the heart like morning sunlight.

Transliteration:
Hoihi soi jo Ram rachi raakhaa
Ko kari tark badhaavai saakhaa

Explanation
Whatever Shri Ram has already planned and written in our destiny will surely happen. There is no use in arguing too much or trying to change it with endless debates. This line brings deep peace to the mind. Instead of worrying and creating more branches of doubt, we learn to trust Shri Ram fully. What he wishes will flower in its own perfect time. This teaching helps us let go of anxiety and walk with calm faith.

Transliteration:
Ho, dheeraj dharam mitra aru naari
Aapad kaal parakhiye chaari

Explanation
In difficult times, only four things are truly tested: our patience (dheeraj), our sense of right and wrong (dharma), our true friends (mitra), and our life partner (naari). Just as gold is tested in fire, these four reveal their real strength only when troubles come. This gentle reminder teaches us to value patience, live righteously, choose friends wisely, and stand by our loved ones when life feels heavy. It shows how adversity can become a sacred mirror for the soul.

Transliteration:
Jehike jehi par satya snehu
So tehi milay na kachhu sandehu

Explanation
Whoever has true and pure love for someone will surely meet that person one day. There is no doubt about it. This line speaks of the power of sincere love and devotion. When our heart is filled with honest affection — whether for family, friends, or for Shri Ram — the divine arrangement brings us together. It comforts us that real love never stays separated forever. Faith and pure feeling act like a bridge that connects souls across time and distance.

Transliteration:
Ho, jaaki rahi bhaavana jaisi
Prabhu moorati dekhi tin taisi

Explanation
The way we feel inside, that is exactly how we see Shri Ram. Our inner thoughts and emotions shape our experience of the divine. If we approach him with love and devotion, he appears full of sweetness and grace. If someone sees him with fear or doubt, he may seem different. This beautiful truth tells us that Shri Ram lovingly meets each soul according to its own feelings. It gently invites us to keep our heart pure and full of love so we can see his most beautiful form shining within.

Transliteration:
Raghukul reet sada chali aayi
Praan jaaye par vachan na jaayi

Explanation
The tradition of the Raghu family (Shri Ram’s noble lineage) has always been the same: one may even give up life, but a given word must never be broken. This is the highest ideal of truth and honour. Shri Ram himself followed this when he left for the forest to keep his father’s promise. It teaches us to value our words more than our comfort. Keeping promises builds trust, strength, and inner purity that lasts forever.

Transliteration:
Hari anant hari katha anantaa
Kahahi sunahi bahuvidhi sab santaa
Ram Siya Ram, Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram

Explanation
Shri Ram (Hari) is infinite, and the stories of his divine play are also endless. All the saints keep telling and listening to these stories in countless beautiful ways, yet they never finish. Even after millions of ages, the sweetness of Ram’s leela remains fresh and new. The verse ends with the joyful chant “Ram Siya Ram, Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram” — a loving victory cry that fills the heart with bliss. It reminds us that diving into Ram’s stories is an ocean of joy with no shore. The more we hear or sing, the closer we feel to him.

These lines together form a small yet complete spiritual guide. They teach surrender to Shri Ram’s will, the power of pure love, the test of true character, the importance of keeping one’s word, and the endless joy of remembering him. Many devotees begin their day or Ramayana recitation with these verses because they bring calm, faith, and divine closeness.

May the gentle light of these sacred words awaken love for Shri Ram in every heart and fill life with peace and pure happiness.

राम सिया राम, सिया राम जय जय राम।
