This is Blog Episode 2 of Ramakrishna Paramhansa Series.
A gentle evening breeze drifted through the open windows of Ramakrishna’s room at Dakshineswar. The oil lamp cast a soft golden glow on the walls, and the Ganga murmured its quiet song outside. Ramakrishna sat in his usual place, simple white cloth around him, his face radiant with quiet joy. A handful of young disciples sat close, their hearts already feeling lighter just by being near him.
He looked at them with those twinkling eyes that always seemed to hold a secret sparkle. A soft smile played on his lips. In his loving, childlike voice he said,
“Come closer, my dear ones. Let me tell you the story of a little tiger who forgot who he really was.”
The Tiny Cub and His Gentle New Family
Deep in a lush green forest, a tigress had just given birth to a beautiful little cub. Before she could even lick him clean, a sudden accident took her life. The tiny cub, alone and helpless, lay crying softly under the tall trees.
A herd of goats grazing nearby heard the faint cries. Their hearts melted with pity. The mother goats gently carried the cub back to their group. They fed him warm milk, nuzzled him lovingly, and raised him as one of their own.
The little cub grew up believing he was a goat. He learned to bleat instead of roar. He ate soft green grass and tender leaves. He played gentle games with the other kids, skipping and jumping lightly. When danger came near, he hid behind the bigger goats, feeling small and timid just like them.
Years passed. The cub was now a strong young tiger, but he still walked with his head low and his voice soft and bleating. He had no idea of the mighty power sleeping inside him.
The Old Tiger Who Saw the Truth
One bright morning, a magnificent old tiger came prowling through the forest. His stripes shone like sunlight on water, and his eyes held the fire of the wild. He spotted the young tiger grazing peacefully with the goats and stopped in surprise.
“What is this?” the old tiger thought. “A tiger living like a goat?”
With kind but firm steps he walked up to the young one, who trembled and tried to run away. The old tiger gently caught him by the scruff of the neck and carried him to a clear, still pool of water nearby.
“Look here, my child,” he said in a deep, warm voice. “Look into the water and see your own face.”
The young tiger peered into the pool. The reflection that stared back at him was not a goat at all. It was a powerful tiger with shining stripes and bright, fearless eyes.
The old tiger smiled and said softly, “You are not a goat. You are a tiger, just like me.”
The First Taste of His True Nature
The young tiger blinked in wonder. Something deep inside him began to stir.
The old tiger brought him a piece of fresh meat. At first the young one turned away, but the smell awakened something ancient and true. He took one bite… then another. A strange new strength rushed through his body.
Suddenly, the old tiger let out a mighty roar that shook the trees.
The young tiger felt the sound vibrate in his own chest. His whole body trembled with joy. He opened his mouth… and from deep within him came a thunderous roar of his own. It echoed through the forest, loud and free and full of life.
The goats scattered in surprise, but the young tiger stood tall. His eyes sparkled. His tail flicked with power. He was no longer timid. He knew who he was.
Ramakrishna’s Eyes Sparkled with Love
Ramakrishna finished the story and leaned back a little, his face glowing with the same delight the young tiger must have felt. He looked at each disciple with such tender affection that their hearts felt suddenly bigger and brighter.
He said softly, “That is exactly how it is with us, my children. We live like timid goats, forgetting our divine nature. But one day the great Tiger of God comes and shows us our true reflection. And when we see it… we roar with joy!”
For a moment the room was filled with a beautiful silence. One disciple felt a quiet strength rising in his chest, as if something heavy had just melted away. Another smiled so naturally that his whole face lit up. A third closed his eyes and breathed deeply, feeling peaceful and wonderfully alive.
Ramakrishna laughed his small, happy laugh—the one that always made the air feel lighter. He picked up a nearby flower and held it gently. “See?” he said. “God is that old tiger, always ready to remind us who we really are. We only need to look into the clear pool of our own heart.”
Why This Story Still Brings a Smile
Even today, whenever you remember this simple tale, something wonderful happens inside you.
You stop feeling small and timid.
You stop grazing on worries and doubts.
You stand a little taller.
A quiet roar of joy wakes up in your heart.
You smile without knowing why, because deep down you remember: you were never a goat. You are a magnificent tiger of the Divine, full of power and light.
And Ramakrishna, with his warm voice and twinkling eyes, is still there in the forest of your life, gently saying, “Look, my child. See your true face… and roar with happiness.”
